What We Believe
At Yates Thagard Baptist Church, we believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to die for our sins, that He rose again to give us abundant life now and through eternity, and that through Him we can enjoy a restored relationship with God.

We believe it is our joy as Christians to follow the teachings set down in God’s inspired Word.  We also believe that our calling is to share our faith with as many as will listen, knowing that God has promised His Word is the answer to all our questions.

The following sections detail our beliefs. If you have questions, give us a call.  We’d be glad to talk with you about what we believe.

Eternal Life

The Good News Is:
1. HEAVEN is a free gift and, therefore, cannot be earned or deserved. (Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9)

2. Every MAN is born a sinner and, therefore, cannot save himself. (Romans 3:23, Matthew 5:48)

3. GOD is merciful; therefore, He does not want to punish us. However, He is also just and must punish our sin. (I John 4:8b, Exodus 34:7b)

4. JESUS CHRIST is the infinite God-man. He died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and to purchase a place in heaven for us. (I John 1:1, I John 14, II Corinthians 5:21)

5. God's free gift is received by FAITH - Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life. (Acts 16:31)

Articles of Faith

The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the very Word of God, verbally inspired in it's entirety. The scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and therefore constitute the sole, absolute and final authority for faith and practice. (I Tim. 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21)

The Godhead
We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14; Jn. 14:10,26)

The Person and Work of Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, without ceasing to be God, became man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order to reveal God and redeem sinful men. (Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:35; Jn. 1:1-2, 14; II Cor. 5:19-21; Gal 4:4-5; Phil. 2:5-8). We believe in the substitutionary death and shed blood on the cross for our complete redemption and justification and is made sure by His literal bodily resurrection from the dead. (Acts 2:21-36; Rom. 3:24-25; Rom. 5:6-11; I Peter 2:24; Eph. 1:7; Rom. 4:25; I Peter 1:3-5). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, having literally risen from the dead, is ascended to Heaven, and is exalted at the right hand of God where he is fulfilling the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate. (Acts 1:9-11; Heb.9:24; Eph. 1:7; Rom. 4:25; I John 2:1-2)

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who convicts us of sin, regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals and annoints all who become children of God through Christ. He further empowers, guides, teaches, sanctifies, and fills believers. (Jn. 3:5; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:17-18; I Cor. 12:12-14)

We believe in salvation by grace though faith and that it is only received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Eph. 2:8-9; Jn. 1:12; Romans 8:1; John 3:3-7)

Growing in Faith

Study God's Word Every Day
Studying God's Word shows Christians how to be obedient to God as you read it, remember it, and relate it to life.

Take time to Pray Daily
Spending time in prayer will provide for your needs, produce a change in your perspective, and preserve and protect you through every situation.

Experience the Joy of Worship
We experience the joy of worship when we prepare our hearts to encounter God, praise God for who He is, and present ourselves for His service.

Participate with other Christians
Fellowship with other Christians is important because it provides believers encouragement, exhortation, and empowerment to live the Christian life.

Share your Faith with Others
When we share our faith with others, God's love is spread, lives are changed, and the lost saved.
